A lot of people have been asking for me to updated my blog and I have finally gotten around to it. What can I say about New York except that it's NEW YORK! It's everything I thought it would be. It's city life with tall buildings, millions of people hustling and bustling to where they need to go, the subway, Central Park, the noise level is always on loud, tourists and who can forget the naked cowboy (yes, he is still around). It's the city of lights that never sleeps. No matter how late I'm out at night I'm always amazed by the amount of people still out. The bars and clubs don't close until around 4 or 5am. Pedestians here do not follow the stop light signals when crossing the street. It doesnt matter that it's not there right away. They walk across if they feel the car won't hit them. Well that's not always the case. Sometimes the car is right on top of them and people still walk in front of the car. It took me a good 2 weeks to become part of the crowd and to not be hindered by following the signals. I was waiting for the cops to give out tickets until I realized this is the typical thing to do. If you didn't know, there is such a thing as sidewalk rage. It's just like road rage, but it occurs on the sidewalk. You know a local from a tourist because locals are always speed walking...they want to get to their destination as quickly as possible. They even zig zag around the slower walkers. Then the tourists are the ones that lollygagger around, taking their time and stopping right in the middle of the sidewalk. Locals get super annoyed by these people. I am sad to say that I have become a local and get frustrated when a group of people stop for no apparent reason. I know I will never drive in Manhattan because the drivers here are crazy. I thought it was bad on CA highways, but that's nothing compared to city drivers. Everytime I get in a cab I wonder if this will be the time we get in an accident. Cars will squeeze past one another or just stop on the street in a no stopping zone. I have seen so many "almost" accidents it's wonder they don't actually occur more often. I came at the tail end of autumn and the weather was a little chilly, but still nice. Then winter arrived and I was not prepared for the freezing wind that numbs your face and all that snow. Rest assured, I will never voluntarily live on the East Coast for the rest of my life. I do miss my Cali weather. Apparently, this is one of the worst winter they have had in years. Yay, just my luck! Walking in snow that comes up to your knees is no joke. If the sidewalk isn't shoveled then you better hope there are some footprint in front of you to walk in or you are falling into the snow. As bad as it was I loved the beauty that was left behind after a night of snowfall. Everything looks pure, fresh and like a winter wonderland. Now that it's spring I was hoping for some better weather. Ha, not a chance! It has been rainy and cold. I'm hoping summer gets better, but I'm starting to have my doubts. I arrived to NY with an internship with an event production company which quickly turned into a full time permanent job. However, a couple of months ago they downsized and had to let me go. Probably a blessing in disguised since I discovered that industry is not for me. You have to be completely passionate about it or the extremely long hours and manually labor will get to you fast. I then was babysitting for a while to make some cash and doing some temp work. I also did a little extra work for the movie New Year's Eve which comes out at the end of this year. You may even be able to see me in a few scenes! At the moment I am temping full time with a real estate firm and I am hoping it becomes a permanent thing. There is so much more that I have seen and experienced, but I will leave it at this for now. I will makes sure to give an update again soon.
